We are excited to announce that we are partnering with Organibox, to support each other as sustainable and food-focused businesses. Organibox’s mission is simple: Make great quality, organic produce accessible for everyone. Organibox produce is delicious and nutritious, which is why Kitche is a vital tool to ensure every last morsel is eaten!

Organibox works closely with their farmers, growers and suppliers, making sure their food, and everyone involved, are well supported; whilst Kitche cares for the food at home and after consumption! Together we want to ensure the complete life cycle of food is sustainable and beneficial for us, and our environment.

What is Organic?

We have all heard the term used and seen it plastered across the grocery aisle, but what does ‘organic’ really mean? Whilst some would think of it as a philosophy, with the intention to preserve natural resources and support animal health and welfare; there are also strict regulations as to what is certified as ‘organic produce’, setting out detailed rules about production, use of pesticides and additives and labeling. All farms and companies are inspected by a certification body at least once a year. While some people see organic as a modern fad, we should remember that until the 1950s all the food we ate was organic!

Why eat organic?

Organic food is better for you and your families’ health and wellbeing. Organic food has more nutrients (the good stuff) and contains less pesticide residuals and additives (the bad stuff). Organic food is often seasonal and produced on a smaller scale, which means it is better for the environment, using less water and increasing soil fertility. Typically 50% more wildlife is found on organic farms.

It is also important to acknowledge the effect that chemicals and pesticides have on the way our food looks and tastes. Huge, bulbous shiny apples may look appealing, but they are far from natural. Fruit and vegetables come in all different shapes, sizes and shades. The uniformity of produce from non-organic farming has meant consumers expect perfection and have unrealistic cosmetic standards for their food. It is important that we give these misshapen veg some love, as they are a leading cause of food waste!

Why does anyone eat non-organic you may ask?

Organic food is often more expensive, if you are buying with your eyes and wallet, you may not want to spend more on the smaller, odd-looking alternatives. That’s why we love Organibox, they provide an affordable and accessible option that saves you from scouring down the supermarket aisles comparing prices and certification labels.
